CoAuto hosts Reno's Women, Wheels & Wine Free car care clinic quarterly.

This fun and laidback knowledge-based class is aimed to empower & educate women to feel comfortable when something happens on the road, or if your car needs maintenance, to feel confident in what dash lights mean, when to and when not to change a flat tire, clear communication with your repair shop, & overall awareness around your vehicle.

Our owner Vinnie, technicians, advisors, leaders, and all team members come in and assist with teaching this clinic. In fact the best teacher is Zoe, she is 18 now but started at CoAuto as a Highschool intern at 15 1/2 and is now employed as our quality control specialist. Zoe is desiring to be a technician in the future. All of the staff volunteer their time and they love to be a part of the excitement that every car care clinic has been. We do have a lot of fun while also exploring the ever changing industry of auto repair.

What: is served: Good wine, charcuterie from the cheeseboard and other beverages are all part of the experience.

When: This clinic is 2 hours on chosen Fridays from 5:30-7:30pm (Next clinic is scheduled for Feb 23rd, 2024)

Why: Empower through education. If we know more about something, we feel stronger about our decisions around it. When we feel strong about our knowledge around cars and communication with the issues or concerns were having we can do many things like resolve the issue sooner, save money, communicate our needs, save time and energy, and feel better about what we receive from our service professionals.

SPECIAL REVIEW! COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENT!

Last night, CoAuto hosted their quarterly free community outreach event specifically tailored to women titled something like "Ladies Auto Maintenance Workshop"...or something close. Newly single, I thought this would be a good event to attend to learn more about my own car's maintenance and I have also been using them as my auto shop for the last year or so. It was a Friday night, they had a beautiful spread of charcuterie and nice wine...so it started really well...;)

The owner, Vinnie, had the workshop organized in sessions and a fun worksheet questionnaire loaded with information and humor. Then we went to the shop! A place I consider FORBIDDEN and I want nothing to do with it, but here I was...and all of us...a group of 12 women moving from station to station with sessions on brakes, under the hood and more, each with a different mechanic. There was plenty of opportunity for questions...nothing here was intimidating and the well-placed humorous banter made it fun, BUT...and important...Vinnie kept the workshop on track with time.

This auto shop is totally cool and welcoming. There is local artists work on the walls, which they change out quarterly, sell the works and take no profit from that effort. The décor, even seating is hip and inviting. Not on this night, but on other visits, a couple of well behaved dogs are hangin' out in the office. CoAuto has other programs as well - high school apprenticeship, other community education and a Veteran's program, to name a few.

To say I enjoyed the program and gained benefit is an understatement. As they sought to reach out to the community, what I received is community in return. What I mean is that I feel like I know these folks now. (Hopefully I will remember everyone's name when I go back!) The next time my car has trouble, (my car is famous for throwing the "check engine" light), I am not going to say "Oh crap... I have to take the car in." I am going to think..."OK, well...I get to go to CoAuto!". In these times where we rarely are able to establish relationships with our service providers, doctors, etc., it will be nice to go back to a business where they will recognize my face and name, and we can work together to solve whatever is going on with my 10 year old car.

They do these quarterly...DID YOU GET THAT? I am thinking if you give them a call, maybe you can get added to a mailing list to be notified of their next car clinic? Or go to their website to check out more of all the other programs they offer and other detailed information.

I've had my car serviced with excellent results, but I want to talk about their quarterly Women, Wheels & Wine Car Care Clinic. Vinnie and his team have totally thought out what we, as women, need to know around getting our cars repaired. The purpose of it is so that we do not get bamboozled when having to get repairs. It is a terrific event! The shop is clean and sparkling, the staff is so very knowledgeable, and the connections are beyond repair staff - they become friends. I not only know things about my car to better handle repairs, it is information that is critical when purchasing a new or used car as well. Thank you to all of you for giving up your Friday nights to educate us women.
